This illustration of a rising phoenix is inspired by the mythological immortal bird that is associated with Greek mythology . It cyclically regenerates and is born again. This feels appropriate to share during this spring month of May as we witness new life emerging from the earth. I intentionally created a coloring page with some stained glass elements because the phoenix is linked to light and the sun.
The phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. In Ukraine, I have seen the phoenix image show up as a mural (in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district) and in other ways as a symbol of hope, rebirth and gaining strength despite the ashes and ruin surrounding it.
